The International Kassel Summer School “Making Globalization Fair” offers a unique opportunity to meet like-minded students, academics and activists from around the world and discuss the positives and negatives of today’s economic globalization. What are the theories and underlying assumptions that characterize liberalized world markets as well as the integration of financial markets? What are the key drivers of the globalization process? Are there alternative approaches? And if yes, what instruments do trade unions and the civil society have to influence and lobby for a fairer globalization?
The seminar program entails a mix of lectures, group work and discussions. Topics range from theories about the functioning of the global economy to governance questions as well as alternative perspectives of the globalization process. Furthermore, design options and strategic approaches in North-South relations will be discussed.
The summer school brings together 25 activists from trade unions, social movements and political organizations from both the North and the South. By sharing experiences about projects and campaigns with each other, participants are introduced to new ideas and perspectives and can extend their international network.
Academics from German and international universities as well as activists and experts from NGOs, trade unions and other institutions will present their research and ideas and discuss them with the participants.
University of Kassel (Political Science Department, subdivision “Globalization and Politics“) and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (Department for “Global Policy and Development”).
